Alan Vassberg
Band member since 1989
Bio
Alan has been playing bass for nearly 20 years. Originally picking up the instrument in college, Alan has played with or recorded with over a dozen acts in the last 10 years. Alan adds to the sonic palate of the Psychic Cowboys by playing acoustic guitar and harmonica.
Mark and Alan are brothers -- and have been playing music together in some form or another for nearly their entire lives. In January of 1989, Mark, the two Alans, and John Texas Haynes met in Bellville Texas to jam (thanks Bill Bailey!). We went our separate ways (Mark to Iowa, Alan to South Texas, and John and Alan B to Colorado), but stayed in touch musically -- with Mark, John, and Alan B convening every few months to write music and record. In January of 1993, Alan V joined the party. The band went through the mandatory name changes (Whoopee Cats, Bikini Test, Bacchanalia Barbie), and ultimately settled on the name "Psychic Cowboys" in 1997 while playing a country-heavy gig in Kingsville, Texas.
Alan is involved in a number of bands and musical projects, including Blue Cartoon, with whom Alan traveled to Liverpool and played at the Cavern Club. Blue Cartoon released their 4th album (the first with Alan), September Songs, in the fall of 2006.
Alan is also a regular performer at Westlake Bible Church.
